The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New York District, continues to coordinate with local, state and federal partners regarding operations following Tropical Storm Irene. Corps personnel have deployed throughout the District’s area of responsibility to work with partners and assess storm/flood damages. Corps personnel are also conducting post-storm assessments of coastal areas in northern New Jersey, New York City and Long Island for comparisons to pre-storm assessments.

This garage was constructed as part of the temporary replacement for Fire Station 4 in Joplin, Mo., which was destroyed by a massive EF-5 tornado that struck the city on May 22. The fire station is one of two temporary stations completed as part of the Critical Public Facilities Mission being managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New York District. It is meant to provide replacement temporary facilities to fill critical public needs. (Photo by Chris Gardner, New York District public affairs)
New York District’s Planning and Response Team is continuing to make progress managing the construction of temporary critical public facilities in Joplin, Mo., after a massive EF-5 tornado struck the area on May 22. The team deployed from New York District to take on Critical Public Facilities mission and is working out of the Corps’ Recovery Field Office in Joplin, which is being led by Kansas City District.
